Window Shopping Wednesday -- Sharon Tomlinson

I'd like to showcase one of my favorite artists here, named Sharon Tomlinson.  I discovered her a long time ago on YouTube and then found her blog quite by accident.  Since I believe that there are no coincidences, I decided that it was meant for me to follow her work.  Since then, not only do I follow her blog, but I took one of her online classes and I watch all of her videos.  She posts "morning art" videos on her blog--these are just little snippets of her working before she goes to work every morning.  I simply love her work; her ladies are not only beautiful, but seem other-wordly to me.

Please feel free to follow her blog at Norah's Art and leave her a comment when you visit.  She will respond and she is the epitome of the Texas lady.  I know you will enjoy talking to her.

She is one of my all time favorite artists and I hope you enjoy watching her, too.

Some new work started!

I had my pottery class this week and I have to say that I am getting better.  I actually pulled two pieces without any help and I even like them.  I also got to clean up and sand my other pieces to prepare them for glazing next week.  You should have seen me when I left there.  I was absolutely covered in clay.  I don't know if I am the messiest potter in the world, or if that simply is how you do it.

I also worked on another of my faces that I am doing for practice, and I like it quite a bit.  I am trying to get five faces started, then I will go back and rework each separately to add detail and definition.  I am trying to figure out what to do with the background, too, since I did not paint it first.  Oh, well.  Live and learn is fast becoming my motto.

Here are two more pictures I am starting.  The first will be another pastel of poppies.  It is very small and will have a diffuse and mottled background with only these flowers in the foreground having definition.  The second is a picture of my dog, Satchmo.  I found a great video on YouTube so I thought I would try her way of painting a pet portrait.

Finished the Sunflower painting.

Here's a picture of the finished sunflower painting.  I cannot wait to get it matted and framed.  It is pretty large--16x20, so when matted and framed it will be even larger.  I don't have any clue what to do with it because I don't have a place to hang it here.  I think I will start a couple of companion sunflower pieces that are small, maybe 5x5 or 5x7 to hang with it.

So, here it is!

I am signed up for an online art class!

A while back, I told you about a class that was about to open at All Norah'S Art.  Well, after thinking it over, I decided I wanted to do this class so I jumped right in and paid my fee and signed myself up.  Now, I am anxiously awaiting the start this Friday.  The great thing is that Sharon has posted a bonus video at the site for the class, so I have been busy getting my feet wet.

Today, I spent several hours running around Austin trying to find all the supplies I will need for the class.  I did finally manage to get all but 2 things--supplies that cover 3 weeks.  So, now I think I will order those two things online and get them in the mail.  I hate to shop!

I've decided that from now on whenever I take any class, I will order my supplies online and just have to go to the post office to pick-up one thing.  That I can do, but it's still not my favorite thing.

Anyway, I'm hoping that this class will help me stay motivated.  Who knows, I may even get my bunny painted in time for Easter this year!  What a thought!

So, for your enjoyment, I am posting a video  from YouTube that shows the instructor doing what she does best.  Enjoy.
